Playground Equipment

An area of travel study and interest we did not anticipate is abandoned playgrounds.

We were driving through the town of Zahl, North Dakota, which is in the northwest corner of the state. The town had seen better days and was mostly abandoned. As we were driving through town we noticed this old school house. The building is now used as a sometimes museum. Although there are historic items inside (we peeked in the windows), even the museum looks like it has been unattended for awhile.

However, the playground is still available for study.

Here’s a merry-go-round and slide.

An old jungle gym.

An old fire truck with toilet. We don’t think these were used by the school.

Another view of the jungle gym. Seeing this playground equipment brought back childhood memories.

Until next time…
