Pitlochry, Scotland – A Special Tree

While staying at our hotel in Pitlochry we decided to take a walk on the grounds. We came across two of the most unusual trees we had ever seen. They were very tall and obviously some type of evergreen. The leaves of the tree looked like a bunch of hen and chick plants stacked on top of each other.

It turns out this tree isn’t native to Scotland, but is the national tree of Chile. It’s called a monkey puzzle tree. It is also known as a Chilean pine tree. It’s native to the Andes Mountains of southern Chile and can also be found in western Argentina.

Until next time.
