At the high end of the Royal Mile in Edinburgh lies the Edinburgh Castle. It sits on top of an extinct volcano and has been occupied since at least the Iron Age. There has been a castle on the site since the 11th century and was a royal residence until 1633. Since then it has been used for a variety of mostly military purposes. It is still used as a military installation to this day.
Because of its strategic importance it has been under siege at least 26 times, and is considered one of the most besieged places in the world.
As you can see from the pictures, this is a very popular tourist attraction.

This is the dog cemetery where the soldier’s dogs were buried.

Notice the huge stadium being built at the end of the esplanade. It is being constructed for upcoming pop and rock concerts as well as the Military Tattoo. These will take place in July. Once the events are over the stadium will be removed.

Until next time.
