Aside from the beautiful scenery in Yellowstone National Park there is a huge variety wildlife. Here are a few of the animals we saw.
A herd of bison. These guys were in the fields and also on the road.

White tail deer.

A black bear.

This guy was really close to the road. While the bison move slow under normal circumstances they can accelerate to 30 miles per hour faster than a horse. Needless to say we drove by slowly and carefully.

This raven was amazing. He was trying to get the rest of the yogurt out of this cup. He placed the cup into the hole in the tree stump to keep it in place. We watched him for several minutes as he worked to get the yogurt.

Bison at sunset. Notice the hazy skies. There were a lot of wildfires in the area and the skies were like this during much of our visit.

An interesting caterpillar. This turns into a spotted tussock moth.

This magnificent elk was out every morning in the town square at Mammoth Hot Springs. He caused quite a stir.

Grizzly bear and her cub. They were trying to cross the street but the crowd that they attracted kept them from crossing. We got our pictures and left, mostly because we felt she was looking straight at us asking us to leave.

We were lucky enough to see several wolves while we were in the park. This lone wolf was running towards his (or her) family. He would stop after running several hundred feet and howl. This was one of the highlights of the trip.

A family of trumpeter swans. This picture was actually taken outside of the park but close enough to include. There is a flock of trumpeter swans that winter in Heber Springs, Arkansas so it is always fun to see them nesting in the summer before they migrate south.

Until next time.
