The movie Giant was filmed in Maria Texas in 1956. The movie was set in the 1920s and followed the lives of a wealthy Texas family. It starred several famous people including Rock Hudson, Elizabeth Taylor, and James Dean. Even though the movie was made over 60 years ago, it is still a significant event for the town of Marfa. Several years ago a bigger than life art display was erected 4 miles west of Marfa on Highway 90. You can see the display as you drive toward Van Horn.

The display is set on the approximately 547 acres that was the site of James Dean’s Little Reata Ranch in the movie. The pole gate entrance from which the sign Little Reata hung, and the wooden derek of James Dean’s oil well still stand. The ranch is fenced with one cross fence, corrals and a windmill and water tank.
