  1. Well, not only are they beautiful but so helpful. We, living on a farm, and our outdoor animals (horses and cows particularly) must contend with horse flies. Every year we can hardly wait for the dragonflies to hatch out and start eating the horse flies. Now this may be an old wives tale but we know from experience that the dragon fly arrives and the horse fly goes. Some of our oldsters have even called the dragonfly, a “horse fly catcher”.
