Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada

Believe it or not, there is more to do in the Las Vegas area than just visit the Strip. If you want to take a break from the casinos, or do as we did and avoid them altogether, Valley of Fire State Park is a great place to marvel at nature with its colorful rock formations. There are great places to hike too.

The layered look near the park.
There are petroglyphs, too.
Yes, that does look like an elephant.
The colors here are spectacular.
Lots of striations.
These colors are real.
Easy to get there. Just a short drive from Las Vegas.
