Maine, USA

All great Canadian trips must come to an end.

Apparently a lot of travelers were ready to head south. This was the first time since we have been RVing that we were searched by Customs. Everyone entering the U.S. was searched for contraband food products. You are not allowed to bring any fresh fruits or vegetables when crossing the border. Since they were searching every vehicle the wait was over an hour just to get our turn. Fortunately we knew the rules and made it through easily.

Our first stop in Maine was at Bar Harbor. Acadia National Park is here. It has lots of bicycle trails and runs along the coastline for several miles.

We also took a whale watching cruise from Bar Harbor. The whales did not disappoint.

Always chilly on these excursions.

A satisfied customer.

After Bar Harbor we went to Rockport. We found a cozy little cafe/wine store. We decided to have lunch (not just wine) here.

We visited Will’s brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Jane, on Hupper Island. The island has a few houses but is mostly forested. We took a hike around the island.

You can see this famous lighthouse from Jane and Paul’s cottage. It was featured in “Forest Gump”. It was Mr. Gump’s final destination on his long run.

There are no bridges to Hupper Island so the only way to get there is by boat. The tides in this part of the world vary greatly so we had to arrive and leave at certain times of the day. Brother Paul was kind enough to provide the necessary transportation to the island.

We had a very nice visit with Paul and Jane but left the area just in time. The day after we left, Hurricane Dorian headed our way. Needless to say, we headed inland.

Until next time.
