June, 2019 – Brent Crater, Algonquin Park, Ontario

Although mosquitoes aren’t the primary feature of this blog entry, the mosquitoes in this photo enjoyed us despite our face netting and layered clothing.

While staying in Stonecliffe, Ontario, we decided to visit Algonquin Provincial Park. One interesting feature of this park is Brent Meteorite Crater located along the northern edge of the park.

An early plaque.

You can see the general outline of the crater in the center of this Google map.

We found a viewing area from which we studied an overview of the crater.

This photo, taken from the elevated viewing area, shows part of Tecumseh Lake, as well as the north and south rim of the crater.

Great hiking trail along the crater rim and down to the lake within the crater.

Cloaked creatures. Do you see it?

Carnivorous pitcher plants. Just a few days before we took this hike there was an interesting article published in several scientific magazines regarding pitcher plants located within the park. Hint…it has to do with what they eat. If you are interested just Google “pitcher plant Algonquin Park”.

And a moose.

Until next time.
