And now for a story from the past that was never published.
Pete Kostelnick is a runner like none you’ve known before. We came upon him running along the highway as we traveled south from Alaska back to the lower 48 states. He ran self supported, pushing a baby stroller with all his supplies.
Pete started his run from Anchor Point, Alaska on July 31st. We had been in Anchor Point the week before. We had no idea Pete was about to make his epic run. When Pete began his run we were on our way to Denali National Park. After our visit to the park we started our journey back to the lower 48. The first time we saw Pete was in Alaska outside of Tok, running along the AlCan Highway. Generally, we would drive about 200 miles and stop for 3 nights. From Alaska, through the Yukon Territory and into Alberta we saw Pete. We would pass Pete ever time we moved. Can you say Tortoise and the Hare? We finally lost Pete somewhere in Alberta.

At first sighting you’re impressed that someone is running and apparently camping along this highway.

But then when we keep passing the same runner over the course of a few weeks, we realize something special is happening.

Here’s a map showing Pete’s trip. Apparently a daily marathon distance run is no big deal.

This shows Pete’s warm up run from west to east coast in preparation for his Alaska to Florida jaunt.

Maybe we should be calling this Pete’s Feat!
