July 27, 2018 – Cooper Landing, Alaska

Cooper Landing is a small town about 100 miles south of Anchorage. It was originally settled by gold miners but is now a popular destination for those who enjoy it’s beautiful scenery along the Kenai River. It is also a popular destination for those who enjoy salmon fishing. They do what they call combat fishing here. That is when the people fly fishing are lined up so close to each other that they are fighting over the same fish.

There were several inviting hiking trails in the area. We decided to hike the Bean Creek Trail.

A trail with recommended reading.

We took the sign seriously and took bear spray with us as well as a boot riding, bell ringing, bear deterrent device.

There were beautiful views on this hike…

…as well as beautiful forms of life.

In addition to our hike we also walked along the Kenai River. Notice the snow on the mountains has almost melted.

These photos do not show the true teal color. In this case, real life was more vivid than the pictures.

A birder checking out the bald eagle nest across the river.

Until next time.
