June, 2018 – Whitehorse, Yukon Territory

Whitehorse is the capital of the Yukon Territory. The Yukon Territory is approximately the size of California and West Virginia combined. It has about 37,000 people living in the entire Territory and 27,000 of them live in Whitehorse. The city is situated along the Yukon River and has a modern, urban feel. We really like Whitehorse.

A big reason for our approval is all the modern structures in town.

Check out this museum:

Look closely as it preserves an older cabin structure.

Here’s a modern apartment building next to the hiking/biking trail that runs along the river.

Here’s part of the pedestrian trail that winds through town.

Until the construction of the Alaskan/Canadian Highway during World War II the only way to get to Whitehorse was by boat. The SS Klondike brought cargo and passengers to Whitehorse from the Bering Sea through Alaska. It has been preserved and is open to the public.

We look forward to returning to Whitehorse on our way back to the lower 48.
