May, 2018 – Stewart, BC

We couldn’t wait to get to Alaska so we took a left turn at the intersection of Highway 37 and 37A with the intention of staying a few nights in Stewart, British Columbia and then crossing into the United States at Hyder, Alaska.

The road into Stewart is a pretty one with mountains converging on both sides. What we didn’t expect to see was our first real glacier.

This is Bear Glacier.

You know it’s a glacier because of all the beautiful blue ice, regardless of what the sun and clouds are doing that day.

Definitely an “Oh Wow” moment when you first see this glacier.

The green area below is Alaska. Within that is Hyder and an official bear viewing area.

Stewart is a nice little town that sort of reminds me of the old Northern Exposure television program.

For example, here’s Denise teeing off at Stewart’s municipal golf course. We stumbled on this 7 hole course which is unattended and free.

There are a couple of irons and a basket of balls sitting there.

Is this scenic enough for you?

A very nice boardwalk in town that helps pass the time.

Finally our rig at the campground.
