March, 2018 – Clayton New Mexico

Clayton New Mexico is a small town in the north eastern corner of the state.  It is in the plains area and well before the mountains.

It is cattle country, and our RV park was next to a cattle farm.  We watched the cutest solid black calves as they ran and played.

Clayton has an interesting local museum.  During the depression the Works Progress Administration  (WPA) brought in several artists and craftsmen to teach high school students how to paint, build furniture, and several other arts/crafts.  The museum had many of their works.

Clayton Lake State Park is a beautiful park about 15 miles from Clayton.

During the 1960’s when many rivers were being dammed up to make lakes they made a fascinating discovery.  Dinosaur tracks.  They uncovered approximately 500 tracks that were clearly visible.  The tracks were between 90 and 97 million years old.
