March, 2018 – Off to Alaska

We officially started our Alaska Trip by leaving Carthage Missouri early this morning. The early (for us) start was an attempt to avoid expected heavy rains in southwest Missouri. We succeeded.

We stayed mainly on U.S highways in far southern Kansas and far north Oklahoma. Most of these roads were in excellent condition. Two of the small towns we traversed on our first day’s journey exhibited beautiful old homes just waiting for a redo.

Our 4 cats enjoyed the unusually long journey today (320 miles). Perhaps their improved travel mood is due to our releasing them from their cages as soon as we were comfortably on the highway.

We have now arrived at Alabaster Caverns State Park. There are pretty rolling hills here in far north Oklahoma, just east of the panhandle.

The 50 amp hookup showed an error on our surge protector so we switched to 30 amps. A bit of hiking and biking is available. We will visit the cave tomorrow.

Cloudy and cool temps, but the trees are turning green.

Next stop is northeast New Mexico.
